Melbourne - Eildon - Jamieson - Solo

After a busy 2015 working year, with no breaks until now.

This time i decided that i will go on a weekend trip to the small country town of Jamieson.

So, i got the bike ready and packed my bags and left the big city to find myself.

Flying Solo...!

On the way back home, i took the Kinglake, whittlsea  road from Healesville back home.

PACKED AND READY TO GO

The ride to Jamieson is only a 203 km ride from Melbourne and I did not see the point of leaving too early.
I left home (Reservoir) at about 10:30 am, with a stop at the local petrol station to fill up.
From home I took the Maroondah Hwy, to Lilydale, Healesville and through the famous ‘Black spur”, with a stop at the “Black Spur Hotel” for a beer.

One stop at Buxton to fill up again, I then continued to “Taggerty” and cut across the “Taggerty Thornton Road”.
From Thornton, I decided to take the “Goulburn Valley Hwy’ instead of the “Back Eildon Road” to Eildon.

Thornton a "One Man Horse town"

I arrived at Eildon at about 12:30 and in time for lunch and a beer at the “Golden Trout Hotel”

I still had plenty of petrol and did not see the need to fill up in Eildon.

From Eildon, I backed track along the “Goulburn Valley Hwy” for about 1 Km and took the turn off to the legendary “Eildon Jamieson Road”.

This is a 60.7 Km Road and what makes it the more appealing is that no cars with trailers and Caravan are allowed to use this road..

Extreme care should be taken when riding this road, as there are no signs to tell you the next bend or how sharp they are.

Just before reaching Jamieson, there is a magnificent look-out overlooking the valley and is an ideal spot for photos.

From the look-out the road, descend toward the valley to the township.

One word of warning: If you need to call your wife, girl-friends, kids or Mistresses, then I would suggest that you do so in Eildon, because once you reach “Jamieson”.. You are in “Dixie Land”. There is no mobile coverage, No internet connection.. As they say “No one will hear you scream!”

I arrived at “Courthouse Hotel” which was my stay for the night at about 4:00 PM. Very popular place for trail bike riders and Four Wheel drivers, the hotel is mostly frequented by the locals.

The Courthouse offers a variety of rooms, from bunk bed accommodation style that will fit three people, two single beds rooms at $45 per person and double bed rooms at $90.

The rooms are very basic.. Did I say “Basic”? .. Well you get a bathroom and toilet, no coffee or tea facilities, no air-conditioning or fan, but they do have a heater. However, the room is clean and they do provide you with fresh towels and soap.

The hotel is well equipped, with good meal at a reasonable price and a good selection of wine. Beer cost $4.50 (Cannot complain about this) and the locals are friendly.

The next day it was time to head back home.

Many would be glad to know that there is a petrol station at Jamieson and the even have Vortex 98 Fuel. ( Gen 2 People.. Fussy..! )

I took the same route from Jamieson to Eildon and decided that i should check out the Eildon dam and I was glad that i did as not many people can say that they've rode their bikes across a dam.
